Geostorm (2017) – Earth’s climate-control satellites go rogue, unleashing hell. Governments thought they could play god with the weather, but now the system’s trying to wipe us out. Gerard Butler races against time (and bad CGI) to stop a planet-wide meltdown. It’s loud, it’s dumb, and yeah—it’s kinda fun. Not high art, but if you liked The Day After Tomorrow, this one scratches that same itch. Effects are solid, plot holes bigger than the storms. Worth a watch if you’re into chaos & cheese. Final thought: sometimes a disaster movie is just a disaster movie—no need to hate, just enjoy the ride.

OUR REVIEW OF THE MOVIE Geostorm
Okay, so I finally watched Geostorm (2017) and honestly? It wasn’t as bad as the 5.3 on TMDB made it seem. Yeah, it’s not high art or anything, but if you’re looking for a dumb fun sci-fi disaster flick, this one delivers. The plot is basically “climate control satellites go rogue,” and it’s up to Gerard Butler (again playing the everyman hero) and his brother (Jim Sturgess) to save the world from a giant geostorm that’s about to erase humanity.
Let me start with what I liked: the action is non-stop. Like, once things start going wrong, they really go wrong. You get tsunamis in Dubai, freezing Amsterdam in seconds, and lightning striking the White House — all within the first 45 minutes. Visually, the movie is solid. CGI is big, flashy, and over-the-top in the best way possible. If you're into visual spectacle and massive destruction scenes, this one's got your back.
The characters are kinda cookie-cutter, but hey, we’re not here for deep emotional arcs. Butler does his thing — gruff, determined, slightly cheesy — and he’s fine. His chemistry with Sturgess feels genuine, which helps carry some of the more emotional moments. Abbie Cornish plays the token scientist who becomes president’s right-hand-woman, and while she’s not given much to do, she holds her own.
Now, the downsides: the dialogue can be cringey at times. Some lines feel like they were pulled straight out of a B-movie script. There’s also a lot of exposition dumps, especially early on, explaining how the climate satellites work. I mean, I get it — you need setup — but it could’ve been smoother. Also, the villain twist? Predictable AF. You’ll see it coming halfway through the movie.
One thing I found weird was the tone shift between the global crisis and the political subplot. It felt like two different movies trying to merge — one being a disaster film, the other a conspiracy thriller. But somehow, it still held together. Not great, not terrible, just... entertaining enough.
I’d compare it to The Day After Tomorrow — same vibe, same kind of exaggerated natural disasters, same "just-enough-sci-fi-to-be-fun" approach. So if you enjoyed that one, you’ll probably enjoy this too. Definitely don’t watch it expecting Interstellar levels of science or emotion, though.
In the end, yeah, Geostorm has its flaws — but it’s a decent popcorn movie. Don’t read too much into the reviews; give it a shot when you want something loud, dramatic, and visually wild. I wouldn't call it underrated, but I’d say it’s unfairly criticized. Oh, and one last thing — why did no one talk about the duck?? That bird had more screen time than half the cast.
IF YOU LIKED THE MOVIE Geostorm, YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE THESE FILMS
1. The Day After Tomorrow – A classic disaster movie with a climate twist, it’s chaotic but fun, and fans of Geostorm will find the same kind of urgency and drama.
2. Armageddon – Big explosions, big emotions, and a questionable science plot. It's not perfect but hits all the right notes for a popcorn sci-fi disaster flick.
3. Deep Impact – A little more serious than Geostorm, but still in the same ballpark. It mixes emotional moments with large-scale destruction that keeps you watching.
4. 2012 – Over-the-top effects, global destruction, and a lot of running around trying to survive. If you liked the spectacle in Geostorm, this one is definitely up your alley.
5. Knowing – Not exactly the same, but it shares that ominous, end-of-the-world vibe. It’s a bit darker and throws in some mystery, which adds flavor.
6. San Andreas – Another disaster film with high stakes and higher waves. It focuses more on earthquakes, but the tone and pacing feel familiar.
7. Moonfall – A newer film that leans into wild ideas and massive threats. If you enjoyed the “something went wrong in space” angle from Geostorm, this might scratch that itch.
8. The Core – Kind of underrated, definitely cheesy, and built around a weird concept. Still, it has the same underdog spirit and mad rush to save Earth.
9. Volcano – Okay, not as epic, but it’s another disaster scenario with limited options and rising tension. It’s short, silly, and surprisingly entertaining.
10. Geostorm – Yeah, I know you already watched it, but sometimes the best movie like Geostorm... is just Geostorm again. Especially if you're feeling nostalgic for bad weather and good effort.
Honestly, these movies won’t change your life, but they’ll keep you entertained while the world ends—or at least until the next Netflix update drops.
