About facial hair removal
On this page
Is facial hair normal?
All women have hair on their faces and bodies, but it is usually light and fine. When it becomes dark, coarse, or thick in growth, it can cause some women distress. There are many methods of facial hair removal, if you wish to bleach or remove this hair. However, if it does not bother you or cause distress, there is no medical reason why you have to remove it.
Causes of excess hair
Certain ethnic groups will have naturally darker or thicker hair, and this can include facial hair. Some medicines can cause hirsutism (excess hair growth), but being overweight or obese can also have this effect. If you're living with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), this can cause your body to produce more testosterone, which stimulates hair growth. If you experience sudden hair growth in unusual places, you should see your GP to rule out any underlying conditions.
Treatments & options
There is a wide range of options and products available if you wish to bleach or remove hair, including shaving, waxing, electrolysis, laser hair removal and some types of contraceptive pill. These vary in effectiveness, depending on your skin and hair type. Most hair removal creams you can buy in shops remove hair temporarily. Prescription creams like Vaniqa stop your hair follicle working properly, slowing growth.
Our facial hair removal clinic
We can prescribe Vaniqa to slow and, in some cases, stop excess hair growth. It works to prevent an enzyme involved in growing hair from working properly. For some women it's an effective long-term solution to unwanted hair growth.
Complete a short medical questionnaire. We will use this information to assess if Vaniqa is safe and suitable for you to use. If you are approved for the treatment, you ca have it delivered or collect in-store.
